One thing I have learned about New Hampshire voter registration process is that it is more difficult to rent a DVD than it is to register to vote. This speaks very little for the integrity of the process.

Our Live free or Die motto and our reputation for being the first primary in the nation requires that we have substance rather than just rhetoric. It should mean something to win the New Hampshire primary.

If we want continued integrity in our elections, we must ensure there is one vote for each person who is lawfully registered to vote. Same-day registration does not allow the time for checking voters information and also encourages an environment where people who may not be lawful residents use the Election Day confusion to conceal the fact.

I call upon our local state representatives to put aside partisan politics and finally do something about restoring confidence in the process and establish sensible registration laws where all, Democrats, Republicans and Independents can feel they were not disenfranchised by an otherwise porous system.

County’s new firing range remains a work in progress

In addition to $ 100, 000 from the Washington County Quorum Court, the Washington County Sheriff's Office has received $ 40, 000 from the Fayetteville Police Department and $ 24, 900 from the U. S. Marshal's Office to pay for the new range, which is under construction on the agency's land off Clydesdale Drive in south Fayetteville. "We contributed $ 40, 000 in'07 and $ 0 in'08 due to budget constraints," said Greg Tabor, Fayetteville police chief. Cantrell said the city's lack of funding for 2008 won't affect completion of the new range. "We've pulled out of construction for now until we decide what we want to do," he said. "It's a work in progress. We're working with Fayetteville to determine what will fit our needs. "Though no completion date has been set, Cantrell said construction of the third and final phase will include a range house and storage building.

Giants need to put pressure on Brady

The Patriots don't need quick-strike capability to drop 35 points on an opponent, they just need opportunities. The Patriots average 41.63 yards and 3.37 points per drive, the best figures in the league by a wide margin. They score touchdowns on 42.4 percent of their possessions, an amazing figure (the Colts were second at 32.2 percent). It all adds up to the best offense in NFL history, according to DVOA and most conventional measures. McDaniels' spread offense, Brady's quick release and field smarts, and Moss' existence put defenses in a triple bind before they even leave the tunnel.

Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo likes to dictate to the offense, forcing long-yardage situations and using the league's best pass rush to force sacks and turnovers.

Spagnuolo's ability to juggle personnel on the defensive line — big Barry Cofield and Fred Robbins play running downs, fast Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka play passing downs, Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora play all the time — has kept opponents guessing and quarterbacks running all season long.

The winners weigh in

I just love to act, so whoever will have me.

"Maybe (in my next role) I'll get to get the girl," he deadpanned. "If I have to play the best friend again ... I don't have many friends, so I'm running out of references."

As for what the "Entourage" guys will think: "I've been it longer than those guys. They don't respect me, but they should and now, they will," he joked.

"We kind of felt like we were doing the show in a bubble, but clearly it's catching on," said Steve Carell, speaking on behalf of "The Office" crew, which won the prize for comedy series in its second season.

Exec producer Greg Daniels called the evening "a night of ups and downs" after he cut his hand on the wings of the Emmy backstage. "People thought it was going to be really hard to adapt an English show, but I speak English, so we really had a leg up there," Daniels joked.

Tuning in Jamie Lynn

Zoey 101 is pregnant with viewers.

Jamie Lynn Spears' Nickelodeon sitcom birthed its most watched episode ever last week, with the hourlong season closer averaging 7.3 million attendants, the latest Nielsen Media Research stats show.

Only the NBC game show 1 vs. 100 (8.4 million) scored more viewers in all of TV, broadcast or cable, on Friday.

A repeat of the Zoey 101 cliffhanger on Saturday night averaged another 3.9 million.

The season finale, in which Spears' titular boarding-school teen shipped off to London, was the first new episode to air since the 16-year-old younger sister of Britney Spears announced last month she was pregnant.

While the with-child Spears recently shipped off to her home in Louisiana, her kid-magnet show will remain on Nick.

Marines fighting - to attract more Toys for Tots

This holiday season will be the busiest yet for Philadelphia's yearly Toys for Tots drive, as the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve strives to collect a record-breaking 115,000 toys for young people in need.

And it's a complicated year, too, as the Marines work to screen for recalled toys - and enforce their ban on toy guns. The Marines rejected toy guns last year, and this year made the ban a formal policy.

"We don't accept anything that promotes violence," says Gunnery Sgt. Robert Putney, Philadelphia's Toys for Tots' campaign manager.

The most popular toys this year are Hannah Montana dolls and Bratz dolls. For boys, it's Transformers action figures.

"Each child receives a new toy, stocking stuffer and a book," said Putney.

This year's drive kicked off in October.
