Barack vs. Bill: Candidate Obama Says Ex-President is Distorting His ...

They report that both Senator Kennedy and Congressman Rahm Emanuel, both supposedly neutral in the Democratic contest, have been calling Bill Clinton and saying, knock it off, stop with the rhetoric, stop attacking Barack Obama. You're hurting the whole party. Your thoughts?

PAT CADDELL, DEMOCRATIC POLLSTER: Well, if they feel that strongly, they should say so publicly, because it's not having a lot of effect so far. The fact of the matter is that we have — you know they are really tearing the party up right now, and I believe there are going to be serious consequences. I think that some of the things that the Clinton campaign —

And I believe for Hillary Clinton, she's got a problem. Is Bill Clinton running for his third term here, or is she running? Does he have to protect her every time? Can she speak for herself? These are going to be problems that are going to crop up not just in the primaries but in the general election.

Hill Country towns offer low-key holiday celebration

Mason, a two-hour drive northwest of Austin, is the county seat, the hometown of Fred Gipson, author of the classic children's story "Old Yeller," and a darn good place to raise a family, if you ask Hinckley. Besides a cute statue of that famous yellow dog, it has quaint shops and an old fort. And it's not overrun with tourists.

"The best thing about Mason is the true home-town neighborhood atmosphere," Hinckley says. "It's very much Mayberry RFD."

And in best Mayberry style, the town spurns anything too fancy come the holidays. Instead, it opts for a simple holiday lighting ceremony on the courthouse square the Saturday after Thanksgiving, plus carriage rides and the arrival of Santa Claus. "At Christmas, we're not really flashy with a lot of glitz," Hinckley says.

I'M SPINNING AROUND by Hans Sparrow

I have to say, happy birthday to Ms Rollins.

I have debated whether I should tell you about another DJ I fear I may be a groupie of, but then I remembered one of my New Year’s resolutions was to share more with those around me – so here it goes.

DJ Bel West has been around long enough to start getting a name on the scene. Her track selection is right down my alley and never fails to get my little feet moving fast.

She is a natural on the decks and so passionate about her craft. And she embodies the most important part of being a truly successful DJ – she is approachable.

Now I can let out a huge sigh of relief because, after many years stashed away in the dark corner of a music store, I have come out and revealed myself as the DJ groupie I am.

Local golf: Cook, Sluman commit to ACE Group Classic

Cook said in a conference call last week that he would be coming to Naples' Champions Tour event, from Feb. 11-17 at Quail West Golf & Country Club.

Sluman had indicated at last month's Merrill Lynch Shootout in Naples that he would be playing.

Both are technically rookies on the tour, even though they both played a handful of tournaments last year.

“It is exciting to see these seasoned veterans making the transition from the PGA Tour to the Champions Tour,'' tournament director Jason Camp said in a press release. “John has already won in his brief time as a 50-year-old, and Jeff is not far behind with several top-25 finishes. I know they want to make a big splash in 2008, and we are happy to have them in Naples for what we hope is the first of many memorable efforts.''

Cook won in his second start at the AT&T Classic in San Antonio in mid-October.

The Main Street Hyannis location closed June 21

After three years of preparation, Girard planned to push off this morning from the Orleans Yacht Club, attempting to beat the record set in 2004 of 62 days, 19 hours, and 48 minutes for a solo rowboat crossing of this route across the North Atlantic. Dozens of yacht club members and others curious about him showed up yesterday afternoon to watch his final preparations. Some had one question: Why? "It's very difficult to understand," said Girard, 26, a balding, wiry man who wore a black T-shirt, brown shorts, and white Nikes with black socks. "There is not one answer. I want to test myself to know what I'm able to do when my life is in danger. Exactly, in fact, I don't know why." His girlfriend, Sabrina Boisset, 27, has given up all her free time to help Girard reach his dream and has given up trying to figure out how he came to it... Read the rest of this Globe story here.

Family unable to section Winehouse

But speaking to Vanessa Feltz on radio station BBC London 94.9, he said: "Obviously this is something that we have looked at. What you have got to understand is that Amy is nowhere near being in a position to be sectioned. She really has to be a danger to herself.

"You might consider taking drugs is a danger to herself, but unfortunately the authorities don't."

The Back To Black star was caught on video this week apparently smoking crack during a drugs binge at her home.

Mr Winehouse described the video, obtained by The Sun, as "horrible" and he said that, while his daughter had taken small steps towards recovery with visits to counsellors and private doctors, she remains in denial about her condition.

Despite her troubles, Winehouse is planning to perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles next month - but first she has to get a visa.

Veterans fight to fit in at college

A network of individuals who share similar experiences waiting for student veterans when they arrive on campus is something they need."

Advocates say veterans need help navigating their GI Bill and health benefits, connecting with other veterans and -- for those in the National Guard or Reserve -- working out their academic and deployment schedules.

"There are services available, but they are not enough," said Gerry Schma, a veterans advocate who helped form the kind of office that Blumke has been advocating at Western Michigan University. "I don't think everyone imagined the magnitude of it." Since Sept. 11, 2001, 331,000 vets have used their education benefits at colleges around the nation. Last year set a record for the amount and number of Veterans Affairs education payouts since the modern day Montgomery GI Bill was adopted in 1985.
