STILL PLAYING

Cashman wouldn't name the players Minnesota wants, but another Yankees official said the Twins haven't budged from their demand of Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera, Ian Kennedy and Jeff Marquez.

"I know what [the Twins] want," Cashman said. "If they call and give us something else to think about, we'll discuss it."

The Red Sox and Mets are the other suitors for Santana, who can become a free agent after this season. Even if the Yankees and Twins were to agree on players, Santana and the Yanks would have to negotiate a new contract. Santana is looking for a six-year $150 million deal or perhaps a seven-year pact for slightly less than $25 million annually. The Yankees have indicated they won't offer seven years.

As for the Mets, according to a person familiar with the situation, they are unwilling to go further than a five-year extension for Santana.

Xbox is crack for kids

Ah how i thought this article was getting somewhere until i read the penultimate paragraph. "Even the crappiest cartoon or lamest soap teaches a child about character, plot, drama, humour, life." I beg your pardon? I would much rather my children enjoyed a round of Brain Training, developed their hand eye coordination in Call of Duty or learnt about "character, plot, drama and life" in The Sims than watched Big Brother or god forbid the Tellytubbies (tell me that teaches kids about character). The most interesting word there is humour. I have played many games in my time, i have also seen many stand up comedians in my time and the best games are comparable. Obviously if your children play video games over family meals, you should consider the question - Why? Is it perhaps the lack of interesting conversation? The over-zealous mother? Or perhaps the cold hard logic that there isn't anything better to do in this hell of a house.

Giants get no respect, but keep winning

McQuarters, which means winning might help unravel the mystery behind the initials R.W.

The Giants lack an undisputable 2008 NFL superstar on either side of the ball, which means, as a group, they make for a pretty good team. And as individuals, they make for a pretty good team.

These are the playoffs, however, where a player who toiled in relative anonymity during the regular season can suddenly find himself on a first-name basis with the football world. All it takes is a great game, or a big play in a big spot, or a sack that knocks Brett Favre out of the game. Any and all can happen Sunday, and the Giants, contrary to public perception, do have the players capable of pulling off such a publicity stunt.

Brandon Jacobs is a prime candidate.

Western Canadians went 'crazy' on Sidney Crosby's first visit last ...

Because of the NHL's unbalanced schedule, people in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver had to wait until Crosby's third season to get a live glimpse, after he had won a scoring title and MVP award and, apparently, the hearts of all in his native Canada.

"In Canada, it's different," Penguins coach Michel Therrien said.

In Canada, where they loyally sing along with their national anthem, obey crossing signals and refrain from littering, they take their sports stars seriously.

TSN, a Canadian sports cable network, likened Crosby's five days in Alberta and British Columbia last week to Beatlemania. Other media outlets said he was making the most famous westward trek since Lewis and Clark.

Crosby was reluctant to go out to eat or be seen in public, used side doors, was followed by cameras and reporters and was inundated by autograph seekers.

Quotes of the week

When asked if it was true he had 30m to spend in the transfer window.

"I just thought, sod it, let's attack them." Reading boss Steve Coppell goes for broke against Man Utd.

"Someone has had it away and when I find out who it is, it's going to be bloody. Legs will be broken." Royals skipper Graeme Murty takes the news that someone has half-inched the shirt he swapped with Ronaldo really well.

"Maybe one of the apprentices has had it. Maybe Murts should check ebay in a day or two!" Reading striker Kevin 'Columbo' Doyle has his suspicions.

"If the morals of an alley cat exist in the boardroom then you can't expect players to be leaders and virtuous on and off the pitch." Luton boss Kevin Blackwell has a pop at Liverpool's owners over their treatment of Rafa Benitez ahead of his side's FA Cup third round replay at Anfield.

Ron Paul: Harbinger or Next Year’s Has-Been?

You state the "truth according to you" and hope you can turn off Paul supporters or those who might think about being one. Dang... If that only worked as an adult in the real world.

GET A GRIP .. please...at least find real facts instead of LIES to try to do it. I could understand if you disagreed with his actual positions but... you don't say that.
