kori911's blog

While 99.9% of the details contained with in Sam "capnsmak" Kennedy's latest blog post titled "Gamespot's Sad State of Affairs" are common knowledge, there was a very interesting tidbit included. Specifically Sam made reference to a rumor that Jeff Gerstmann and Gamespot founder Vince Broady are collaborating on a new video gaming website to "take on Gamespot". Perhaps Alex knows something we don't (besides how to write excellently and play drums), and his leaving was in anticipation of this new project getting off the ground.

Although it is only a rumor right now I am inclined to belive it. Gerstmann and Navaro were arguably (still is for Alex untill the 24th) Gamespot's most respected and popular editors. Combine their writing skills with Vince Broady's talent on the business side of things and you have the makings of a new Internet juggernaut.

Prosecutors in Manhattan (location of the banks through which some of the shady transfers were made) have also been handed the relevant papers. And the evidence adduced by the House of Commons must necessarily be considered by Scotland Yard, because it goes far beyond the damage done to the honor of Parliament. In the meantime, it will be interesting to discover whether Galloway's former wife, or the associates of his campaign who also received "Oil for Food" money, ever declared the income or paid any tax on it. And if I was the editor of the Daily Telegraph in London, whose printed documents about Galloway appear to have been vindicated by the parliamentary inquiry, I would want to revisit the judgment for libel that Galloway astonishingly managed to win, even under a notoriously oppressive law, in an English court.

BOX OFFICE REVIEW: 'Game Plan' wins, Stiller, Farrellys find box ...

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ There's something about a reunion of Ben Stiller and the Farrelly brothers that audiences didn't want to see.Stiller and the Farrellys' "The Heartbreak Kid" pulled in a modest $14 million during opening weekend, coming in at No. 2 behind "The Game Plan," which remained the top flick for the second-straight weekend with $16.3 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.Paramount and DreamWorks had expected more from "The Heartbreak Kid," which reteamed Stiller with Peter and Bobby Farrelly. The trio collaborated on 1998's smash "There's Something About Mary."The studios had gotten positive reaction from audiences at advance screenings, but reviews for "The Heartbreak Kid" came in much harsher than expected, said DreamWorks spokesman Chip Sullivan."We were surprised," Sullivan said.

Cox: Leafs don't know who they are (Oct. 17)

That was an exclamation point on a season of misadventures which included the defender tripping over his own net during a blowout loss to Carolina. It's been a tough start.

"It's not like it was the seventh game of the Stanley Cup finals," McCabe said of his Sabres winner. "It was the seventh game of the season. We've got a long way to go."

McCabe has struggled to find his game as the marquee front man on a floundering defence. That has made him the subject of derision from fans and earned him monikers such as Boy Blunder and Bryan McKlutz on the front pages of Toronto dailies.

But despite the mounting criticism, McCabe said the last few days have not shaken his desire to remain with the Leafs or encouraged him to consider a more drastic exit plan.

"I still love the game and love to play.

Tories demand Salmond quit as MP

We warned before the elections that if Alex Salmond became the MSP for Gordon then the constituency would be saddled with a part-time MSP, dividing his time between London and Edinburgh.

"The reality is it is his Westminster territory of Banff and Buchan which has suffered."

Mr Fraser added: "Alex Salmond should do the decent thing and resign as an MP.

He would still be left with two jobs to do - a constituency MSP and First Minister of Scotland."

Details of Mr Salmond's voting record were produced by The Public Whip, a website which tracks the performance of MPs.

It shows that since May 8, Mr Salmond has turned up at Westminster to vote on only two days.

On July 25, he took part in three votes on immigration, the machinery of government and home affairs.

Reporter's Notebook: Coach Clev remembered

Montana Hall of Fame coach Bob Cleverley's name may not sound that familiar among the players currently on the roster of the undefeated Ennis/Harrison football team (2-0, 6-0).But there is little doubt that their fathers know who he is.In Ennis, Cleverley created an eight-man football powerhouse over the course of 38 seasons. His contemporaries remember Cleverley as a teacher first for several generations of Mustangs, leading a life's worth of lessons.Cleverley died Saturday of cancer at age 69, after spending all of his adult life in the Madison Valley.

His successor, principal and football coach Greg Fitzgerald, inherited the school and a program that transitioned seamlessly nine years ago to the 11-man game. Fitzgerald said Cleverley was the consummate small-town football coach, a position loaded with tradition and expectations.Cleverley respected and transcended that legacy.“Never too busy to talk to you," Fitzgerald said.

David Moenning's Daily State of the Markets: 12/31

The bulls tell us that this alone is a huge positive. However, we might also suggest that the regional economic reports released at about the same time as the home data actually hurt the bear case. The Chicago Business Barometer actually rose by 3.7 points in December to its highest level since June. And although the New York report wasn't quite as strong, these two reports indicate an actual increase in economic activity, which doesn't exactly jive with the theory that the sky is falling. Turning to this morning, as you are no doubt aware, we've got one more session to get through before we hit the reset button for 2008. Most everyone who makes their living based on performance is hoping for a quiet session without any big surprises. And so far at least, this looks like what we've got going.
