| Big kid comes out to play on neighbourhood rink
Wayne Gretzky grew up playing on his dad Walter's backyard rink in Brantford, Ont., so he couldn't resist the urge to relive the past before the Phoenix Coyotes' practice at Rexall Place on Wednesday afternoon. Former K-Rock morning host Jim Jerome, a longtime pal who manages No. 99's Gretzky.com website, had an idea for a feature on outdoor rinks. He figured, and rightly so, that backyard rinks in Canada are like backyard swimming pools in places like Phoenix, so why not show what the attraction is? Jerome rounded up some neighbourhood kids at lunchtime for a little game at his place and talked Darren Pang, the Phoenix TV colour commentator and former NHL goalie, into dropping by to help out for the web feature. .
'Freeheld' nominated for best documentary
Cynthia Wade, the director of the film, said Tuesday from the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, where "Freeheld'' debuted last year, that she had not expected to make the film that eventually was completed. But, she said, as soon as she met Hester, she knew she had to make the film. Wade temporarily left her two children and husband in New York City to live part-time with Hester and Andree in Point Pleasant. "Cynthia deserves every bit of credit,'' Andree said Tuesday night. She repeated that she has mixed feelings about the documentary and the nomination. "It's exciting. I know I'll never meet someone else who will say they were part of an Oscar-nominated film,'' Andree said. "Unfortunately, part of it is about the passing of my wife. "It's certainly a learning tool,'' she said, ""and with the presidential election coming, it's a controversial issue I hope is discussed.'' Wade said: "Now my older daughter is in second grade, and she will tell you that all couples, gay or straight, should be granted the same rights.
Emotional Hillary vows to carry on as Obama looks set to take New ...
That instantly set off speculation that she might call off her bid in case of a second straight humiliation after losing last week's Iowa battle-opener. As the tell-tale tape was played by television networks all through the day, her campaign felt compelled to fend off the rumours that she may quit the race. Clinton herself, regaining her composure after that unguarded moment, declared: "Whatever happens tomorrow, we're going on." The former First Lady, who led the Democratic sweepstakes for many months until Obama upstaged her in Iowa last week and was poised for a repeat in New Hampshire, said: "I've always felt that this is going to be a very tough, hard-fought election, and I'm ready for that." "We're going to keep going until the end of the process on February 5," Hillary said in one of her interviews.
Benefit game pits Gophers against elders
Cooks varsity football squad will hit the field once more. But instead of a trophy, theyll be playing for a former classmate. The Little Gophers will challenge their elders in a game at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23, at the Cook School football field to raise money for a scholarship established in memory of Megan Ashley Anderson. Anderson, a 2005 graduate of Cook High School, was killed at her workplace in Eveleth in August. The idea for the game evolved out of conversations that Matt Zupancich had with some of the football players who work at Zups Food Market in Cook. Just for fun, some of us older guys started playing football on Wednesday nights, Zupancich explained. And we started teasing the guys that once their varsity season was done, we would challenge them to a game. The varsity team decided to take them up on that dare and that led to the idea of turning the game into a fundraiser in Megans memory.

The Weekly DiScussion: Have we lost our stomach for intelligent debate ...
Of course, Morrissey has been here before; sometime around 1992 where it all came to a head with a Union Jack flag and a Madness support slot. So you would have thought he might have been a tad cautious about even muttering the word 'immigration', let alone passing comment upon it. Perhaps though, he doesn't care. I've been told by many that when you get to a certain age, a certain point in life, you stop worrying about who's going to judge you because it doesn't matter anymore. What he must have been aware of though, was that his statements would be debated. Or not. For there doesn't seem to be much debate about anything, anymore. More a series of screaming headlines found daily on your newspaper or website of choice, condemning people for actions, thoughts or words that dare to be different or out of step with the common consensus.
